Clay

I have been playing with my stash of polymer clay lately. Here is a sampling of what I have been making. This batch is all Christmasy things.

I’m trying to find the perfect glue to use. I really like Quick Hold, because I am impatient and like to wear my goodies as soon as I make them.

However; I have discovered that some of my clay doesn’t like the Quick Hold, much to my sadness.

The Quick Hold was one of 4 glue minis, and so far the only one I have tried, because it was, fast! 🙂 I think I will have to try one of the others. Maybe the Goop will work. We shall see! Do you have a favorite glue? Is it one of these, or another brand?

Speaking of clay, I am planning on trying different types of home made clay. I want clay that will dry hard. So far, the recipes I have found are for Salt Dough, Cold Porcelain,  Corn Starch clay and Bread Clay.

I just made a small batch of salt dough, to make some ornaments for our outdoor trees. These two trees sit on either side of our front door. The recipe was really easy, it’s 2 parts flour to 1 part salt and 1 part water. Mommy Potamus has a great tutorial on making ornaments. I made simple 1″ balls and stuck paper clips in them. After baking them at 250° for 2 hours. I shut the oven off and left them in there so they could finish, since they were pretty thick. The next morning I painted them and coated them in glitter. I suppose I could have used glue though. I hung them on an indoor clothes line to dry. They look pretty good on our trees, you will have to take my word for that though, because I haven’t taken a picture yet. 🙂

The next batch of clay I will be making is Cold Porcelain using cold cream.

I would love to hear what decorations you are making yourself.

Happy Crafting!
